Twist-Knot Headband Tutorial

Hey all. Lately several people have asked me where I've gotten my turban-esque, twist-knot head bands, which are not head bands at all! They are actually just scarves that I tie a certain way to look like one. I originally saw this on Pinterest but I figured I would put together my own little tutorial for fun. Hope this helps! :)

1. Use a scarf that is long enough to wrap around your head twice. First center the scarf on the back of your head so that the two ends are equal and in front of you

2. Cross the two ends, one over the other in front of your head

3. Pull the cross tight against your forehead

4. Cross the two ends, one over the over. Take the bottom side and twist it all the way around the other side in a wind-mill like motion

5. After the twist, both sides should end up back in the place where they started, but the twisted knot in the front will be formed.

6. Take the ends around to the back and tie them in a knot, I like to tuck the loose end peices into the wrap to make it look more like a head band.

Voila!

Hola. I am so tired of Drafting! Which sucks for me because I have to finish the page I'm working on and do a whole other one before class tomorrow.. and then I have to do it in class for 3 hours. It's not even that it's hard it's just so annoying and tedious.
        Yesterday I went to the Grove with a new friend. Now that I've been in LA for a few months, I'm finally starting to sync into my own pattern and be comfortable enough to make friends and go out and do things. And it's about time! Four months of pent up Katherine is a lot to handle, so thank you, Hannah, for not changing your mind about me after I talked your ear off yesterday. I never realized how much I apparently like to hear myself talk. Really though, I was just so glad to have someone non-judgemental who would actually listen to me. I love my roommate and her friends, but, I just don't really fit with them. This is a realization I've come to recently, which just makes me even more ecstatic to have a friend who is like me! Anyway, Hannah wanted to go to the Grove to apply for jobs (brave Hannah for trying to work and go to FIDM at the same time) and I was on the hunt for shorts. Which I found, yay! Along with two crop tops <3<3<3, a ring, and a cute bracelet to go with my watch! All from Forever 21. And proud of it.
        I was so excited for today because I could finally wear some of my new stuff from this weekend since I had class. I'd been plotting to wear my neon wedges, which are so so so comfortable thank god because I wore them to a mall. Yes, my trends class was held in a mall today. The most pointless class of all time became even more pointless. Thank god I had two more friends to share today with. Samantha and I had quite the adventure in the Apple store attempting to get her iPhone replaced for whatever reason, during which time it was revealed that she actually has two currently active iPhones. Just because. We also had big lol's because my digital camera's LED screen wasn't working and I thought for a moment that I might have to look through the lense *gasp*. The funniest part of that is that it's funny at all. The dude in the Apple store who helped us was named Darlington. That's kind of a sick name. I wondered what his parents were like.
         Home now. Swamped with drafting. Watching Charlie's Angels and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Helping my Indian roommate, Prakriti, try on my pink wig for laughs. Emailing potential housemates for next quarter (including one from Australia, fingers crossed!!). Looking forward to tomorrow with Samantha and Mallory. Enjoy these images of my life.

DRAFTING. UGH.

       Happy Saturday! It definitely was for me. Enjoy this picture of my back. I've been getting a lot of compliments on my tattoo lately, including someone calling it "dope." Today I successfully completed my 5-week, 6 hour, computer graphics class. Then decided to celebrate by taking a trip to the 60%-off-the-entire-store jewelry store down the street, where I finally broke down and bought a watch, which I love and still haven't taken off. Along with two pairs of earrings, all pictured below. My good luck at the jewellry store relit my shoe-hunt fire so I decided to check the shoe shops in the alley before I went home. (I've been on a hunt for shoes for a few weeks, I go combing through the shoe stores, all up and down the alley, sometimes going to the same store multiple times, trying on who knows how many pairs and I haven't been able to find any buy-worthy pairs. And I actually have somewhat of a need for new pairs right now.) Success! My roomie, Tray, dragged me into a little store so that she could try on some platform chucks, where a sexy little pair caught my eye. I fell in love with them for they reminded me of my lady lost, a gorgeous little leather jacket mimicking wedge that went missing a few months ago. If you're out there, your sister misses you, please come home. I should have never tried them on because I knew if they fit then I would have to purchase them, at least as a tribute to my beauties. I then continued on to my real mission, a vibrant pair of neon yellow and black wedges that I'd spotted a few days prior, where the sales lady told me that they didn't have my size, or any size besides 5.5. I almost went back the same day to make sure but I talked myself out of it. Silly me, because today they had my size, and they fit like a perfectly neon glowing glove. And they're comfortable. I picked up another pair a few days ago that I'd figured I'd throw in with the bunch. I'd been looking for some combat boot-esque shoes, the boot look isn't so great on the short and square, not to mention the wide calf. I wasn't necessarily looking for a pair with a heal, but, if the shoe fits.. and it did. I got two compliments just trying them on, and they were on sale because of the off season, so how could I not? The last of my purchases was a jewellry organizer, FINALLY, and luckily, I found it at a 50% off store. Topped off the evening with jewellry organization and Pizza. Yum. :)

In love with this watch. I was hesitant about buying one for a while because I'd never had one before, and I knew I would be getting a cheaper version that was probably made to look like a high-end designer watch which might be misconstrued as a knock off. But I'm so glad I finally gave in!

Figured these would look cool with a rocker look or something dark like that. Keeping it glamorous at all times. Obv.

I have a couple of drop earrings like this that I wear a lot but both pairs I have already are gold so naturally, I needed some silver ones.

Oh bad-ass ones, you will never replace our missing wedge, but you might take the edge off of the pain of our loss. ;)

These are killer to walk in. I decided to practice walking in them by going to the grocery store in them late one night. Everything was great while I had the cart to use as a crutch, walking home with three paper bags full of groceries was a different story.. beauty is pain. And these are going to look awesome with the contrasting look I'm working on!

      Materials&Props class is one of my favorites. It's the only class I've had that I can really see myself making a career out of. I also love my instructor, which just makes the entire experience more enjoyable. Today, we toured Omega Prop house and MEL, a popular makeup and effects studio. I was beyond excited for this feild trip, especially with my new-found intrique with the film industry. I found the prop house less exciting than I anticipated. I mean, it was cool, but the though of needing to use it one day made me stressed. Four giant warehouses, filled with thousands of props, organized by style, era, color, quantity,etc. It was the equivalent of walking into Forever 21, except that Omega actually has an organization system.. but equally as overwhelming.

      The most exciting part was going to the MEL workshop. I did not want to leave, I wanted to sit down on one of the empty stools next to the employees working on the Power Rangers masks, grab my sand paper and get to work. It was also helpful that I was informed that the co-owner of the studio had just been flown out to North Carolina where he will be head of the makeup crew for Iron Man 3. I would like to be a part of the makeup crew for Iron Man 3. I came across a mold of Robert Downey Jr's head, which lead into a storey about Chris Evans (Captain America), coming to get a mold of his head done. I don't know if anyone will ever understand how badly I wish I could mold these peoples heads. If I merely molded heads for the rest of my life I would be happy. Not only does MEL create masks and do makeup effects, they also do robotronics, mechanics, molds, and probably a million other things that I would love. Probably I should just go there and beg for work until they give me something to do. Probably I should just go in there and start working like I already work there...

       It just works out, that I find myself drawn to this kind of work. In one of those funny ways that life always tends to work itself out. I was going to go to school and learn special effects makeup, I'm definitely interested in makeup. I'm definitely interested in making things. Mostly, I'm completely interested in learning about this stuff. I'm dying to know how to do it all, and I'm willing to stand around and learn from these guys, and be the apprentice so that I can figure it out. And I'm still fabulous. So there. Also, wore rediculous clothing today. Also, pictures below.
